You’re on Zoom.
You’re talking to people.
So why does it still feel…different?
A 2026 review in Perspectives on Psychological Science looked at decades of research on remote vs face-to-face interaction.
The finding:
Remote communication leads to lower engagement.
Less emotional connection.
Less physiological response.
Less overall impact.
Because your brain is missing key inputs:
nonverbal cues, eye contact, timing, physical presence.
And that matters.
Face-to-face interaction is linked to better well-being and stress regulation.
Remote interaction? It falls somewhere between connection and isolation.
Technology helps us connect.
But it doesn’t fully replace being together.
💬 Do you feel more drained after remote meetings—or more comfortable?
